Crowns & bridges
At Refresh Dental Care we offer crowns in one visit, while you wait.
Crowns are one of the most comprehensive restorative solutions. A crown is sometimes referred to as a ‘cap’ as it is placed over a carefully prepared tooth to restore strength, appearance, and function.
A crown is recommended to be placed over a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy or where a large filling is putting a tooth at high risk of fracturing. Crowns can also be treatment planned to improve your smile cosmetically. We are able to design the shape, size and colour of the tooth/teeth you would like to improve.
A bridge is an effective solution for missing teeth that can restore your smile. A bridge consists of one or more ceramic teeth, which are secured to natural teeth on either side by crowns. Depending on the intricacy of the bridge this can be offered as a single appointment or two separate appointments.
- A bridge may also be secured by dental implants.
- The procedure for a bridge is very similar to that for a crown.
- Crowns and bridges require the same care as natural teeth.
Primarily crowns are bridges are made from an aesthetic ceramic to ensure they look natural. Depending on the best type for you our Dentists may support the ceramic with an underlying metal base.
With our experienced clinicians and optimum oral health with regular maintenance (check up and cleans) the average life span of a crown/bridge will be 10-15 years. This is not to say they wont last many more years. It is important to attend the dentist regularly as crowns and bridges require regular maintenance just like natural teeth.
We use a specialised colour palate to match the shade of your current teeth to that of your crown or bridge. We also work closely with a dental ceramicist when needed.
Yes, you can! We recommend avoiding anything particularly hard or sticky for 24 hours. It is also important if you are numb to avoid hot food or drinks until the anaesthetic has worn off.
You can have crowns on any of your teeth. A bridge is planned to replace a missing tooth. Recommendations are best discussed with your dental practitioner.
